Skin Needling with SkinPen®
Treatment
Revitilaise and visibly transform your skin with skin needling by SkinPen® at The R Clinic.
Overview
Overview
Skin needling or micro-needling is a form of collagen induction therapy. It involves piercing the skin superficially with ultra-thin needles to stimulate collagen reproduction, which leads to cellular rejuvenation and cellular turnover. Micro-needling is a very popular and versatile non-surgical cosmetic treatment that can visibly transform your skin allowing you to address a variety of skin concerns with minimal downtime.
At the R Clinic we use the SkinPen® device for our micro-needling treatments.
How it works
How it works
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure involving the movement of a pen-like device with an attached sterile, disposable cartridge tip containing small needles over the skin’s surface. The microneedles puncture the skin and create tiny micro injuries that are not visible to the naked eye. These tiny punctures stimulate tissue regeneration through a process called collagen induction therapy (CIT) which improves the appearance of the skin.

This state-of-the-art microneedling device accelerate collagen production and cell regeneration. By utilising microneedling (CIT), skin concerns such as acne scars, surgical scars and stretch marks may be addressed. Cosmetic concerns such as fine lines, skin laxity, skin texture, and pore size may also be improved.
Expected result
Expected result
Results from microneedling appear gradually as the body’s processes go to work stimulating cell renewal and collagen production. It generally takes at least up to 3 months before a physical improvement can be seen. However, you will likely see some preliminary improvement as soon as your treatment is over which will continue. To produce the most significant outcome with SkinPen®, we recommend a series of six microneedling treatments spaced about four to six weeks apart. Once full results are achieved, an occasional touch-up treatment will help you maintain your radiant glow over the long term.

FAQ
Have further questions or want to learn more?
How many microneedling procedures will I need?
The number of procedures required will be determined based upon your individual treatment goals and the overall health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of three procedures spaced about four weeks apart. We will develop a procedure and maintenance plan specific to your needs and to help maintain the rejuvenating effects.
How much downtime will I have with microneedling?
Most patients may be able to resume normal activities immediately following a microneedling procedure. The exception to this is exercise and activities that induce sweating and heat, as they may aggravate the skin post-procedure. It is recommended to avoid any heat inducing exercises for at least 3 days following the treatment.
Does the procedure hurt?
It does depend on your individual pain threshold. Some people don’t find it hurst at all, while others can find it uncomfortable. Topical numbing cream can be applied to help counter any pain, but too much numbing can have an impact on achieving optimal results.
What happens after treatment?
SkinPen® is unique in that it provides dramatic results with minimal downtime. Immediately after treatment, you will be red and may feel that the treated skin is tight. The inflammatory response feels like and looks like sunburn, but the process in the skin is very different. The next day, you’ll probably be pink and may still feel a bit irritated, but you can put on makeup and go about your normal activities.
Are there any side effects associated with microneedling procedures?
Microneedling procedures are generally very well tolerated with side effects being rare when your treatment is performed by a trained professional. Most side effects will only occur due to not following appropriate pre and post treatment skin care instructions as set out by your treating practitioner, applying non-approved skincare to treated skin, and also due to not disclosing vital information during the consultation.
The side effects may include:
- Skin infection
- Temporary post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Tram track appearance on the skin
- Bruising
- Allergic granuloma formation
- Systemic hypersensitivity
- Persistent redness
- Acne and milia
- Reactivation of herpes simplex virus (cold sores)
