MiraDry Sweat Reduction
Treatment
Overview
Overview
Suffering from excessive sweating (also known as hyperhidrosis)? Say goodbye to sweat and feel refreshed with our permanent underarm sweat treatment. At The R Clinic we used the miraDry system to treat axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) and underarm odour, miraDry is the only FDA and TGA approved system that permanently reduces excessive underarm sweat and odour.
How it works
How it works
miraDry utilizes microwave energy (thermal energy) to target and damage those sweat glands & odour glands located under the skin. At the same time, a cooling system continuously protects the upper layer of the skin and keeps the heat energy at the targeted area of the sweat glands. Once those glands are heated and eliminated, they do grow back. Goodbye, sweat stain!
Why we use MiraDry?
Why we use MiraDry?
One of the greatest benefits of miraDry is that it’s a permanent way to resolve excessive underarm sweating. You won’t have to think about whether or not you’ve worn enough deodorant or antiperspirants and be able to enjoy life to the fullest. In fact, most patients need only a single miraDry treatment for life-changing resolution of their excessive sweating. On average miraDry patients experience an 82% reduction in sweating and 89% decrease in odor with a single treatment.
Expected result
Expected result
Most people will experience a significant reduction in underarm sweat and odour after just one treatment with miraDry. In clinical studies, 90% of patients are satisfied with the result after one or two treatments. In addition, you will notice some underarm hair loss which is thought to be permanent. miraDry will cause, on average, an 80% permanent reduction in sweat from baseline levels. If you do not get the result that you were hoping for after one treatment, a second treatment can be undertaken 3 months after your first treatment.

Preparation and Aftercare
Preparation
Preparation
3-4 days before procedure:
- Shave both underarms; by the time you come in for your procedure, there will be a little bit of hair growth to identify the area to be treated.
1 day before procedure:
- Do not wear any deodorant or antiperspirant.
Treatment day:
- Wear clothes with loose arm holes for easy access to the treatment site, e.g. tank top, sports bra, or camisole
- Bring a CLEAN top to wear after the procedure.
- Plan for the procedure to last an hour
During procedure
During procedure
- Local anesthesia is administered to assure maximum comfort during the treatment
- A temporary tattoo is used to mark the treatment area in preparation for treatment
- Handpiece application will be guided by marking on the skin and each area is treated by miraDry energy wave that eliminate sweat and odour glands
Treatment will generally take about one hour to complete. Most patients experience minimal downtime and return to normal activity right after treatment and typically resume exercise within several days.
Aftercare
Aftercare
- Immediately ice the treated area using towel or gauze-wrapped ice packs and use non-prescription anti-inflammatory medication (e.g. ibuprofen) to reduce swelling. Continue as needed over the new few days.
- Keep the treated area clean (wash with water and gentle liquid soap) and apply topical antibiotic ointment (e.g. Chlorsig®, or Bactroban®) to prevent infection.
- Avoid shaving or applying antiperspirant/deodorant for the next 5 days. If deodorant / antiperspirant is still desired after the treatment, discard any partially used product and open a new product.
- Wait for 3 days before resuming rigorous exercise and activity.
- Wear loose fitting tops to avoid underarm irritation for the next few days.

FAQ
Have further questions or want to learn more?
Can miraDry remove sweat from other parts of the body?
No. Currently miraDry is only indicated for underarm sweat.
Is miraDry proven to work?
Yes! In a large, peer-reviewed, multi-site clinical study, the long-term results and efficacy of miraDry were proven. A detailed look at the results of these findings can be found at the International Hyperhidrosis Society website: https://www.sweathelp.org/treatments-hcp/miradry.html
What about sweat stopping injections?
Injections for sweating work by blocking the chemical signals from the nerves responsible for producing sweat. On average results only last between 3-6 months, meaning patients must return for more injections to stop their sweating. This can become very expensive in the long run.
Who is miraDry for?
miraDry is for EVERYONE who:
- Is inconvenienced by underarm sweat
- Is tired of underarm stains and lingering odour in clothing
- Wants to rid themselves of the toxin in deodorants
- Is tired of feeling unclean at the end of the day
- Suffers from rashes when using antiperspirant
- Wants to be liberated from underarm sweat forever
Will miraDry remove odour and hair?
Yes, up to 70% hair reduction of all colours occurs! miraDry is the first device to receive FDA clearance for both underarm hair removal of all colours, and underarm sweat removal. Although the primary targets are sweat and odour glands, hair units reside in the same plane as these glands.
What happens after the procedure?
You will be able to go home on the same day, and will be recommended to use icepacks on the underarms for the following few days. You may also be prescribed a mild over-the-counter painkiller. It is best to avoid exercise until a few days have past.
Is miraDry covered by Medicare or private health insurance?
Unfortunately, miraDry is not covered by either Medicare nor private health insurance.
Don’t I need my underam sweat glands?
Of the 2 million + sweat glands that exist all over the body, only 2% reside in the underarms. Removing these sweat glands does not stop the body from effectively cooling itself and does not create compensatory sweat (sweating excessively from other parts of the body).
Does miraDry hurt?
Because your underarms are numbed with local anaesthetic, you will not feel any discomfort during the procedure. At times you may experience a slight warmth and pulling of the skin. Most patients rate the discomfort level a 2 out of 10, with 10 being extremely painful.
Are there any side effects?
You will temporarily experience slight swelling and soreness. Short term altered sensation may be experienced in the underarms, but subsides gradually. The procedure does not create rebound/compensatory sweating as seen in other sweat removal treatments.
