Overview
Overview
Collagen stimulating fillers are different in longevity & application compared to shorter-acting hyaluronic acid fillers. These groups of fillers give an immediate effect followed by long-term collagen stimulation. The most popular collagen-stimulating fillers in Australia include PLLA & calcium hydroxylapatite. It is commonly used in the jawline, and necklines & for volume replacement in the hands.
When collagen stimulating injections paired with the right skincare products, it can help you maintain a more youthful appearance for many years to come.
How it works
How it works
Not just another dermal filler, collagen stimulating injections otherwise known as collagen bio-stimulators are considered the next generation of cosmetic fillers. It contains a gel matrix which gives instant volume enhancement, while forming a ‘scaffold’ in the dermal layer of the skin which triggers the production of collagen and elastin. These products can help to restore volume to crepey skin and also provide a subtle lift by stimulating the underlying dermal tissues to resume collagen production. Your skin will benefit from both a restoration in volume and also improvement in skin structure and hydration.
Why we use Biostimulators?
Why we use Biostimulators?
Collagen stimulating injections are ideal for treating larger areas that require rejuvenation such as the lower face and neck. These injections can fill deep lines and folds and provide significant lift and volume in areas like the cheeks, jawline, temples, and mid-face. They are also used in areas beyond the face, such as the backs of the hands.
Collagen stimulators give patients healthy, natural and subtle rejuvenation that develops slowly over time. If you’re looking for maximum results that develop discreetly, you will likely benefit from a collagen stimulator treatment. Improved volume of the skin, smoother skin and better-hydrated skin in the face, neck and hands are all potential outcomes from collagen stimulator treatments.
Expected result
Expected result
Patients can expect to see results directly after their collagen stimulating injections, but these will slowly subside as the treatment takes effect. You will gradually see changes in your face as new collagen is formed, with the most dramatic changes being visible 8 weeks after your treatment. By 8 weeks, new strands of collagen will have begun to form, creating the appearance of fuller skin.
Additional treatments may be done after six months; however, a lower amount of product will be used the second time as the collagen production process will still be taking place after the initial treatment by this stage. Generally, top-up treatments may be needed about 2-4 times every 12 months to produce the best results.

Topical or local anesthetics may be used to minimize discomfort. A cannula is used to deposit the collagen stimulators under the skin in long threads. The area is then massaged to distribute the product evenly. Once injected, the collagen stimulators will prompt the underlying tissues of the skin to produce more collagen, creating anti-aging effects over time.

Collagen stimulating fillers has 3 distinct advantages when employed correctly. Firstly longevity, collagen stimulating fillers can last upward of 5+ years, compared to 2+ year with HA fillers. Secondly volume & cost, in areas such as temples and jawline, it can provide better lifting capacity with less volume. Thirdly, it has additional effect on skin rejuvenation and can be used as a treatment for hand rejuvenation.
What are the risks of collagen stimulating fillers?
Careful injecting with excellent product & anatomical knowledge will markedly reduce but not eliminate side effects. HA or hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible with an enzyme called Hyalase, whilst collagen stimulating fillers such as PLLA (Poly-L-Lactic-Acid) & calcium hydroxyl apatite do not have a reliable reversal agent.
Delayed nodules, infection, & biofilm are very rare side effects. The decision to employ collagen stimulating fillers is based upon calculations of risks & benefits taking into consideration clinical findings, technique, anatomy, & dilution.
What Is the recovery process after Collagen stimulator injections?
After your Collagen stimulator injections, you may experience redness and swelling, bruising may also be visible. You may experience tenderness at injection site for a few days after your treatment. Depending upon the areas treated and products used, you may feel “firmness” in the treated areas for 1 to 2 weeks after treatment. Over time, the areas will soften and “settle.” For discomfort you may take Tylenol. Arnica creams can be topically applied to aid bruising, swelling and pain after treatment.
Is the treatment painful?
Treatments are super comfortable as we normally reconstitute these fillers with local anaesthetic agents. These biostimulator fillers, when formulated correctly, give the same sensation as with hyaluronic acids.
How long do collagen stimulators normally last?
Calcium hydroxyl apatite & poly-L-lactic acid fillers typically last between 36 to 60 months, depending on the area treated, dilution, & individual factors (such as your immune system & metabolism).
In hyper-dilute concentrations the longevity ranges between 1 to 3+ years.
